-Villain Sebastian Stan is basically a Sith Lord-- he says, "You're either with/for us or against us." I'm forced to think of Obi-Wan Kenobi saying, "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."
- Really? The only black male in this movie is killed after maybe 10 minutes of screen time? Really? And the only other mutant of color almost immediately and with very little explanation joins
- Solid cast of characters, the plot was okay; I enjoyed the work that the actors put into making their characters solid and developed and relatable. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are pitch-perfect in their respective roles, very compelling as two strong-minded equals.
- I'm not too crazy about the scene when the mutants come up with code names for themselves. It felt too shoe-horned to me, like the writers needed to come up with an explanation and decided to do it like that. Wasn't a fan
- Solid special effects; well-shot and directed, they were. I mean, Magneto raises a submarine out of a water! This scene is in the trailer but it's still spectacular in the movie.
- I liked how it was set in the 60s but didn't feel costumey or sixties-tastic! Well, except for most of Emma Frost's getups, but I feel that her character cares a lot about the latest fashions and has the money to keep up with them, whereas the other characters have more, uh, pressing matters to attend to.
*Sebastian Shaw.
ReplyDeleteHavok is supposed to be Cyclop's little brother so that kind of flies in the face of tons of comic continuity.
The girl who was a stripper with the codname Angel's name should have been Pixie
And all the above mentioned characters (save for Sebastian) as well as Banshee and Darwin are all X-Men that never entered Marvel Canon until much after the appearence of the Cast of the First 3 movies essentially all the characters save for Charles and Magneto should be YOUNGER than ppl like Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm etc.
They took all the mutants that were invented when you and I were growing up, and stuck them in the 60's. BUT, this is the best made X-Men film of all 5 that have been made. The acting was good, the characters were decently developed, EVEN Darwin, though it was very brief. Should you wanna discuss this further please message me. I've been itching to talk about this with a fellow film/nerd buff for some time.
