I don't like pine nuts
I'm not fond of the way they taste, but what really gets to me is that they look like teeth. Like baby teeth, or rodent teeth. I'm not particularly phobic when it comes to dentistry or teeth-- I've never liked going to see the dentist but I developed an appreciation for their work when I went to Nicaragua-- yet to me there's something inherently disturbing about thinking about eating teeth, of crunching teeth between your teeth.
I've disliked pine nuts even before I became vegetarian. Again, I have no problem with other people eating meat right off the bone or watching someone gnaw on marinated chicken feet and enjoy most episodes of "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern". I know that pine nuts are an ingredient in pesto but I try to forget this when I eat it anything that has pesto in it. There's this traditional Korean rice drink (image above) that has pine nuts in it as decoration, as a garnish, I guess you could say. I really like to drink it but I always refrain from imbibing the nasty little floating things. I wouldn't even have to chew them. Even the thought of having pine nuts floating around in my stomach makes me grumpy and indignant.
I know it sounds like an oxymoron but I'm really not a picky eater except for the fact that I don't eat meat. But I try hard to avoid food that features even a single pine nut in an unprocessed form.
