Trailer Review: The Three Musketeers 3D
This trailer reminds me of the one for the Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey, Jr.
It doesn't have Guy Ritchie's trademark use of slo-mo but has a good amount of action scenes, fighting femme fatales, a pounding orchestral score and impeccably groomed villains. And an American actor amidst British ones. And something about trying to stop the end of the world.
I have only a tepid interest in seeing this film. The trailer is cut in a pretty standard, conventional way and the story is intriguing enough, I suppose. I absolutely devoured Dumas' "The Count of Monte Cristo" and feel that "The Three Musketeers" would also make for a good read. It looks like the movie will solely be shown in 3D, which makes it safe to assume that the action sequences were filmed with this feature in mind. I think I've just talked myself into seeing this movie just to see how well the 3D action bits turn out. As with most movies nowadays I'll probably end up waiting to see what kind of reviews it gets before forking over the money to see it in theaters.
I like Logan Lerman as an actor but it's jarring to see and hear him in this movie. And with that hair, it does no favors for him. I was expecting the titular musketeers to have a bit more facial hair, but then again I'm glad that they aren't as flamboyantly swashbuckling as I would imagine them to be. And it's nice to see Orlando Bloom wielding a sword again; it must sit naturally in his hand after all those years toiling away in that trio of artsy indie films about a lowly blacksmith who rises to become a master of the seas (the Pirates of the Caribbean series).
