They're baaack!
This commercial isn't as ripe for analysis as the first one featuring Yankees fan Alec Baldwin and Red Sox fan John Krasinski. But I still find it amusing. My thoughts-->
1. This commercial is made by a hat company but there's no specific mention of the hat. I don't know why this struck me more this time around, because its predecessor doesn't draw attention to the merch either. It just sits there on John Krasinski's head, but it looks like it belongs. The cap isn't so much a prop as it is part of his head. Again I could go with the argument about how Mr. Baldwin lives in a slightly snobbier world and wouldn't want to muss up his hair even in exchange for publicly proclaiming his baseball allegiance...
2. ...and again his casual attitude about his wealth is on display, here in the form of an enormous wad of cash that he passes to the recipient of his punch.
3. My favorite part of the exchange:
"You drove all the way over here just to punch me in the face?"
"No, I ran; I was too angry to drive."
4. By the way that John laughs it seems that someone else is with him in his home, or whoever's place it is. But how come that other person doesn't react to John getting punched? But I guess for the convenience of the director or producer it's easier to just focus on what goes on between the two actors, and no one else.
5. Why does Alec look at the camera at the top of the stairs before knocking? I'm not against breaking the fourth wall, but I don't feel like it really served much purpose and could've been omitted. But it still works in the commercial, so...basically I'm complaining about nothing.
There's a Facebook page for people to vote on their allegiance, as of this writing it is split 50-50. Interestingly, the categories aren't Yankees vs. Red Sox, but rather are written as Team Baldwin vs. Team Krasinski; it's not directly about the team but about which actor's team you support. Goes back to the "fit in yet stand out" mantra, but repurposed as New Era's new slogan, "Fly Your Own Flag".
